Schuylkill River Fishing and Free Animal Zoo in Royersford, PA

If you are looking for a quick free zoo trip in Montgomery County there is a cool place to go that won't cost you any money. I must be honest, technically it isn't a zoo either but there are plenty of animals held captive at their nature center to make for a fun, quick and cheap trip right in Montgomery County, PA.

Royersford is an area with things to do near Norristown and the surrounding region. They have a place were you can see wolves, foxes, all kinds of hawks, a donkey, goats, turkeys and more all for no price at all.

This is also a rather nice looking fishing spot along the Schuylkill Rivers well. The river is just behind this place and they welcome fisherman to come and fish the day away (PA fishing rules apply of course).

What to Take When I Have Sporting Goods Store Put Fishing Line on My Spinning Reel

 Having the sporting goods store put fishing line on your reel is an easy and often cheap way to put line on fast.

When the store puts new line on your reel for you, they can do it real fast with motorized equipment that put the line on your reel quickly and evenly.  

There are certain tips and things to remember when you take your reel to the store so they can put line on it.  Keep this in mind:

-Don't take your rod.   The store won't need it to put line on your reel. They just need the spool from the reel.

-Don't bother to take off the old line.  The store will remove old line from the reel spool as part of the cost for putting new line on.  You can take the line off but it will take you a little longer and old line is a mess.  Let the store do it.

-You don't need the whole reel for the store to put fishing line on. You just need the spool.

Steps to Just Take the Spool Part of Spinning Reel Off The Rod

Step 1 -  Look at the top of the spool. There is a screw you can grab between thumb and forefinger.

Step 2 - Turn the screw counterclockwise until it comes off. Believe it or not, it will take longer than you think to take it off.  Keep turning until the spool is completely removed.

Step 3 - Take the spool portion only to the store.  It'll be small and easy for you to carry instead of that bulky reel.

Remove Skin Scales Easy off Salmon Fillet for a Great Fish Recipe

Removing the skin off a salmon fillet in preparation for your favorite fish recipe is easy. Please read on to learn how to Remove Skin / Scales off Salmon Fillet for a Great Fish Recipe

     Place the salmon fillet flesh side up (skin / scale side down) on a clean, flat surface.

     Find the center of the salmon. When you look at this fish you'll notice a line that runs right down the middle of this fish lengthwise.

     As shown above, take a sharp, long, thin knife, preferably a fillet knife and slice it right into that line, but don't cut through the skin on the other side.

     Then, as the blade gets down to the fish skin keep cutting and turn the knife 90 degrees and keep cutting. I can taste the glorious fish fillet recipe already :-)

     Cut the blade straight across between the skin and the flesh. Cut until the knife comes all the way out the other side of the salmon.

I lose crank bait all the time. Crank bait is great fun to use and generally, while not considered "weedless" will keep out of the weeds and not get snagged easily.  It is expensive though. Cheap crankbait can run a couple to a few dollar a piece and Rapalla crankbaits can run five, six, seven, eight dollars and up.  Lose one and it is like losing a piece of your wallet.


Crankbait is not the only bait catch a nice bass. There are other fishing baits out there that will land you a lunker.

You better believe you do! As of the date this article was written (March, 2011), you need a fishing license if you are under the age of 16 in Pennsylvania. You can obtain a state of PA fishing license at just about any sporting goods store that is a licensing issuing agent, county treasurer office and fish and boat commission office.

I found that the easiest way to fish legally in Pennsylvania is to purchase a license right online.  It is really easy to do and you can print the license (and applicable trout, salmon, etc stamps) right on your printer.

Why You Want to Keep Local Streams of Water Clean

There are many reasons to keep your local waterways clean.  First, of course, is that it is quite possible that any particular body of water is used for drinking purposes. Sure, the water goes through various stages of treatment and cleaning before actually making it out of your faucet, but you still want the water to be as fresh and uncontaminated as possible from the start.

Another, big but less obvious reason, is for environmental concerns.  Every body of water, even the smallest of pools or streams supports a local ecosystem or micro-environment. Contaminate that particular body of water and you alter the ecosystem in that environment. Anytime you introduce a new organism through pollution, or kill off an organism through pollution you create a domino effect of problems.

For example, maybe pollution kills off a certain creature that kills termites.  With that creature gone, the termite population in that area increases dramatically. This could cause issues with the local lumber, etc.  Worse yet, at least for us, the termites might invade our homes more easily.  You get the point?  Regardless if you are a member of Greenpeace or a staunch industrialist, it is a good idea to do your part to preserve the quality of our water.

I love fishing, or should I say crabbing, for blue claw crabs.  Blue Claw crabs are fun to catch and are fun to eat as well.

I do the majority of my crabbing at the south Jersey shore bay.  It is a nice way to pass the time. The southern New Jersey bay is known for having a fair amount of blue claw crabs in its waters.

Some recreational crabbers do not give any thought to identifying male versus female blue claw crabs.  It wouldn't surprise me if some people were not aware that you can tell the difference between the sexes of crabs.
