More Swagbuck tips

Swagbucks is a great cash back savings site. How Long Does it take to Make Money on Swagbucks?I've tried it and it really works. I wrote a complete review on Hubpages. Now the rub...it takes a while to earn ln Swagbucks but you can do it. As mentioned on Hubpages, take it slow. If you really, really work at it, figure you'll make like $6 an hour. I slow it down and try to earn $6 a month. That way I don't get burned out and mess with the App only when I deem my time the cheapest...like if I'm waiting for a train or something like that where I have nothing better to do.
Some more tips:

In addition to my Hubpages post
1. As with all money savings sites, I suggest taking the money and running, what I mean is, unless you see an incentive (either personal or within the site) when you reach minimum cash-out, take it. The most complaints I see on any savings App (all of them, not necessarily Swagbucks) read something like "I accumulated $100 and I can't withdraw it." Is that a problem? It certainly is but if minimum cashout is $10, try cashing out when its only $10 instead of waiting the extra time to reach $100 then realizing a problem.
2. Use Swagbucks referral link when you can. Especially with friends who want to try it, then your friends can use it. This will make signing up for them easier and you'll earn bonus bucks whenever they earn Swagbucks.
3.

So I'll shamelessly add a referral link click here to sign up . If you have a friend or relative already using Swagbucks, use their referral link, not mine, it'll benefit their earnings, but otherwise if you don't know anyone with Swagbucks, free to use mine, show me some love :) (or just visit the Website)

By the way there is other good, legit money saving sites that I'm personally trying. I hope to have more reviews up soon.

These sites relate to saving on groceries, rebates claimed by taking photo's of receipts from a variety of companies as well as apps that tie to you credit card and automatically locate savings / rebates for you. I love the idea of utilizing the internet to save on common  goods we buy anyway. There are a lot of ways out there to successfully save more cash

Why can't I log into ing capitol One password username

So you are asking yourself ,"Why can't I log into ing Capitol One when it seems I am using the correct password and username. I had this problem logging in and wound up doing a pass word reset with customer service. For the record I don't know if I have the right answer but I think I inadvertently figured out what I was doing wrong.

During my customer care conversation. She asked for my user name. I gave it to her, it was in capitol letters and she told me that it doesn't consider whether case matters. In other words case doesn't matter... r does it? After she sent my temporary password to reset my account, i still struggled to log on stating my username/password is in correct. So, I tried the username in lowercase and the temporary pass word and it worked !

I wish I tried that before I reset the ID because that might have been my problem

Thanks for stopping. Feel free to check out my auctions to fund stroke recovey (my recovery:)

How to Get Amazon Refund and Ship Label Return Package at UPS Store

If you are looking to return goods on Amazon it works out easier than you might think. I finally did this just today and it worked out pretty good.   Make sure you double check Amazon’s terms and return policy as this might not be 100% up to date when you read it (things sometimes change)  but it should come close.

So I bought pants that felt too tight from Amazon. I still had the Amazon box and the packaging materials it came in. I highly recommend keeping the packaging until you know you want to keep the goods.  I logged into my account, looked up my pant order and went through the simple return process.  At the end of the process on-line, there is no refund / credit of money just yet.  Amazon emails you a link so you can print a UPS ( United Parcel Service) label.

I printed the label from work since my printer at home hasn’t been working. Since I did not have blank labels to print on, I printed on a normal blank sheet of paper, cut out the label and affixed to the box using a large wide piece of clear tape.  If you do this make sure you do not crease or bubble the tape over the label. You don’t want to mar the writing or especially the bar code.   Then I looked up the local UPS store and dropped the box off.

I  asked the UPS store what would happen if I had no way of printing the label?   They said I could forward the label email Amazon sent to me to the store and they would print out but there would be a charge ($5 at the moment). If you need to do this, call your local store first and find out.

I also asked what would happen if I was able to print the label but had no way of properly affixing it to the box? They said they can do that at no extra charge.    That said, always call first to make sure this policy does not change.

Lastly, I asked if I print the label but can’t drop it off the same day, can I drop it off another day?  They said I could do this…. But again, check first as policies change.

So after I dropped it off at the UPS store drop off, they told me to wait while they scanned and make a receipt. Took just a minute.  About an hour after scanning I got an email stating Amazon was processing the refund and it would show on my account in  a few days.

Samsung S4 Galaxy Turn off Text Message Arrived Notification Sound but Keep Icon

Every time I get a text message I typically have my phone set to show the message arrived icon on my cell phone’s status bar and it also vibrates when I get new texts. I just got a new Samsung Galaxy 4 and noticed that in addition to the vibrate and new message icon (that little envelope at the top of the screen that appears in the status bar) I was also getting a notification sound ( a ring / beep etc ) when new text messages arrived

While in the text message mode I was able to turn off the sound in settings by doing this …….press text message icon, press menu button on phone in lower left corner, settings, scroll down to notification settings – Uncheck “Notifications make sounds and show icon status bar when you receive new text messages….

How to Print Email in Color on Outlook

So maybe you were having the same issue I was when printing emails off of Outlook.  When I would go to print to either a color copier or color printer it would come out in black and white.   It got to the point where I thought possibly copier only printed in black and white but this was not the case.   Actually the bulk of my problem was that my color emails would print out by default in black and white to a copier / printer that was capable of color but by default prints to black and white. Anyway…..

So the solution to this is pretty easy but for some reason I don’t think it is quite as intuitive as it should be.  So you better grasp it, I’ll do a step by step instruction with some screen shot images as well to hopefully help you through this task.  I am using Microsoft Outlook 2010 but this probably works on other versions as well.

Outlook Messages Not Going to Sent Bin

I ran into a situation where my MS Outlook emails were not being sent and I was noticing that even after sent it, they were not appearing in the sent bin. If your outgoing emails are not going to sent bin and recipients are not receiving be sure to check your OUTBOX folder. The outbox folder link can be found along the left side of your Outlook screen in the same place where you can link to / open your trash, inbox, etc. etc.

Unfortunately,  I do not have a quick and easy way to fix this issue permanently (though it does seem to have gone away with what I wound up doing).  This doesn't seem to be something that I am able to trouble shoot on MS Outlook .  Seems to be a bug.

That said, I was able to resolve the problem of Outlook messages not going to the sent bin. It is not a fancy answer and an infant could probably do it.  Remember how we all try the reboot to fix something.  All I did was reboot the entire computer (shut down and start back up)  and slowly (say over the course of several minutes after reboot) by outbox emails slowly de populated and went to the sent bin and were received .

Create Outlook Email Template For Repeat Saved Form Mail

Hi!  So you want to create a an Outlook email template where the same words / text stay the same every time your open it up.  These templates, aka form emails are easy to do but I admit Outlook isn't quite intuitive to use if you are a first time user like I was (we migrated from Lotus Notes to Outlook 2010 so I too had a lot to learn).

This works best for MS Outlook 2010 but likely works for other versions as well.

Set and Enable Vacation Out of Office Away Message On Outlook

So we switched from Lotus Notes to Outlook and I just so happened to be going on vacation that afternoon.  How do I set up and enable my away message on Outlook telling people I will be out of my office and away from the computer?  It is easy to set up an activate your away message on Outlook, though I found it much different than Lotus.

This works on Outlook 2010 and probably other versions as well. The only thing I am not sure of is if this works on home versions on Outlook or only on business / commercial versions. Keep reading though to find out.

Change or Make Unread Outlook Email Messages a New Color Like Red

OK, so you are using Microsoft Outlook for your email program
and you noticed that the difference between your read and unread emails is some bland light black and a bold black.  Why not make the unread emails change to a different color like read or blue or green or any color you like?

Adding color or giving unread outlook emails a new color is pretty s easy to do.  Let's look at how to change that color:

Step 1

Presuming you have Outlook open and you are looking at your inbox (but you could also be in draft, sent items, etc) click on the VIEW tab at the top of the screen.

Step 2

Then just to the left, a little bit down from the view tab you’ll see Change View, View Settings and Reset view.  Click on the one in the middle VIEW SETTINGS”

Step 3

“Advanced View Settings” window appears. Click on the CONDITIONAL FORMATTING button.

Step 4

Make sure that UNREAD MESSAGES is checked (actually I left them all checked but in the least make sure UNREAD MESSAGES is checked)

Step 5

Then click on the FONT button in that same little window.

Step 6

Then choose your color  (you can also change font size etc as well )

Click OK  (believe it or not I actually forgot to do this : -) .. Now you are all set.  I hope this helped you to Change or Make Unread Outlook Email Messages a New Color Like Red

Another Helpful Post .... Do You find that your emails instantly turn from bold to light black as though they are 'read' on Outlook (2010 or similar versions)?  I wrote a post on how to keep Outlook from turning emails to 'read' without opening. Check it out

Angelo Cataldi 94 WIP Fails To Grill Christie on Superbowl Parking

Angelo Cataldi 94 WIP Fails To Grill Christie on Superbowl Parking....

Kind of a sad that Angelo Cataldi,  sports DJ for 94 WIP , who enjoys complaining about everything never once asked what the New Jersey Governor Chris Christie could have done to prevent the transportation fiasco for people going to the Super Bowl this year.

I would have loved it if he got into this with the Governor as to why people can not travel privately to the Super Bowl.  More is written here on the topic of not being allowed to drive to Super Bowl

I get it, believe me.  Angelo Cataldi is all roar and no bite.  Most of his rants are done in fun and aren't meant to be particularly malicious, but, a more direct interview with Christie on why he hadn't combated the National Football League more on this would have made things more interesting. There are far too many restrictions on how people can get to the 2014 Super Bowl in NJ

After all, it wasn't as if I thought he would be interrogating the NJ governor on Bridgegate.... it's just a game Ang, c'mon, hit 'em on this. Challenge, question, prob, even just ask would have been nice.

How to Show Proof of Payment LA Fitness Membership for Insurance

I have Independence Blue Cross health insurance ( IBX ) and one of the documents they require so they can refund you money for your gym visits is a proof of payment form. If you use LA Fitness like I do You can simply ask the person working the counter at your local LA Fitness to print out proof payment..... HOWEVER ...... I find that they rarely know how to do this and typically either:

1) have to find someone who can

or

2) ask you to try another time when they are not working when someone else (presumably better trained) can do this.  If you want force this issue, they can definitely do this as much as the clerk might not want to admit it :)

Or.... you can simply print it out on line.... very easy to do... here are the steps.

Log into your LA Fitness on line account (or register if you haven't signed up)

Look for the Account Information link or equivalent

Under account information you will see links for receipts , prepayment , etc.  you'll want to click on "Payment Information"

When payment information appears look for the button "View Payment History" and click on it.

(PS.... you might be tempted to click on 'receipts' .... let me save you a few seconds of time... don't click on this :)

After clicking "View Payment History" you will see confirmation of payment (if you are all paid up of course), type of payment etc for the past 12 months.  I typically just print this page out.

If you want to know what I do to get all the documents together for my health insurance fitness reward reimbursement, I can explain in more detail on my IBX gym reimbursement post here

Changed 2006 Honda Oil – How to Reset Oil Life on Dash

So you just got the oil changed in your 2006 Honda Civic LX but you noticed that the oil life gauge on the dashboard still shows that you need to change your oil.  If you get an oil change and the oil light indicator does not reset (plus you’ll see a maintenance wrench light icon appear on the dash as well) , do not fret.  The chances are that your mechanic really DID change the oil and the chances are that the oil life indicator display is working fine.

When to Change Oil on 2006 Honda Civic LX - The Car Will Tell You

Like most cars these days the 2006 Honda Civic LX will tell you when it is time to change the engine motor oil.  Regardless of what kind of car you own, changing your engine oil is one of the most important ways to maintain and prolong the life of your engine.

The classic way checking is to keep a log book of what mileage you last had your oil changed, compare it to the recommended miles between each oil change as stated in your owner's manual and then change it again when your odometer hits that reading.  For example you changed your oil last at 10,000 miles, your owners manual says change every 6,000 miles, so therefore when your odometer hits 15,000 you should get another oil change.

The other way of course is to follow the recommendation of the service station who changes your oil (they may post a sticker on the inside of your windshield)

The best and easiest way I find to keep track is to let the car tell you.  On the 2006 Honda Civic LX, ( and I believe the DX, EX too) the car's dashboard will alert you when it is time to change the oil.  If you want to get an idea of how long you have to go until you need another change, follow these steps

I also included a complete video below for your reference at the bottom of this post

Step 1 - Turn on The Ignition

Turn your car on so that your dashboard lights up

Step 2 -  The SEL RESET button

Look for the "SEL RESET" button on your dashboard.   This is found  to the left of your steering wheel and the button sits almost to the far left of the dash.

Step 3 - Look at Your Trip Odometer

Look at your trip odometer on your dashboard just under the speedometer.   See it?  OK....

Step 4  - Press the SEL RESET Button

Press the SEL RESET button until the trip odometer changes to read "Oil Life".

Step 5 - Oil Life

The rest is self explanatory.  If your oil life reads 100% it means that you have just changed your oil and your oil is 100% fresh (give or take). If you show 20%, you are getting close to time to change that oil.  When it is officially time to change your oil (I think around 10% or so) your cars dash will notify you that it is time to get it changed.

Hope that helps.

Here's a post on how to increase or decrease the brightness of your Honda Dashboard Lights

Increase Decrease Brightness on 2006 Honda Civic LX Dashboard

Not all of the dashboard lights increase or decrease on a 2006 Honda Civic LX.  That said, the lights on the odometer, trip meter, speedometer region of the dash do.  This might also work on the Honda Civic DX as well as Honda's  EX models as well, but I know for sure the 2006 LX can be adjusted here.

This is easy to adjust.   If you are sitting in your Civic driver seat, just to the left of the steering wheel is a set of buttons with a plus sign ( "+") ,  a minus sign ("-") and right in the middle of the plus and minus signs you see a speedometer icon / image.   If you are really having trouble finding this,  it is (as mentioned) to the left of the steering wheel, on the dash,  just to the right of the " SEL RESET " buttons.

Note: Video is embedded at end of this post if you want to see more

Step 1 -  Turn The Ignition On

Turn the ignition key far enough so that the power turns on inside the car. You can turn the ignition key all the way until the engine starts but this really is not necessary  ( PS ... don't drive the car while doing this task )

Step 2a -  Darker ?

Press down the minus key to make the dashboard lighting darker.  You can just hold the minus key down until it dims to your liking.  Think of the minus sign as your dimmer

Step 2b - Brighter ?

The plus sign will make the lighting on the dash (speedometer area) more bright. Hold the + down and you'll see it get brighter.

Step 3 - All finished

When you are done, just take your finger off the button and you are finished.

Final Thought - Did I Just Ruin My Odometer ?

So while you are doing this, you might notice that your odometer goes blank and steady is replaced with zeros.   Don't worry. Each zero represents how light or dark you have set your dash brightness.  More zeros = more bright , less zeros = less bright

Don't fret.  After a few seconds or so after stop adjusting the brightness your odometer will reappear again.

I hope that helps you to increase or decrease the brightness on a 2006 Honda Civic LX Dashboard

Still want more here's a post on how to change the clock in your Honda LX

12/26/13

How to Change Clock on 2006 Honda Civic LX (and likely DX and EX )

How to Change Clock on 2006 Honda Civic LX (and likely DX and EX )

Changing the dashboard clock on a 2006 Honda Civic LX sedan is pretty easy to do once you learn how but I found it somewhat difficult to figure out.  Since you much more intelligent than I am, you took the time to research how to change the hours and minutes on the Civic LX clock instead of wasting time teaching yourself how :  -  )

This probably also works on Honda's 2006 DX and EX and might work on a bunch of other models as well.  This for sure does work on the LX sedan.

Note: in addition to the steps below, I also posted a video at the bottom of this post so you can see how to adjust the clock easily in your Honda.
Step 1 - Turn on the Car

Go ahead and put the key in the ignition and turn it until the power comes on and the dashboard lights up (the 'on' position) or if you want, you can turn the call all the way on so that the motor starts.

Step 2 - Press the AM (radio) button and hold

Look at the AM button (that allows you to switch to the AM frequency on your radio) on the dashboard.  This button is just above the radio channel buttons.  There is also the word "clock" next to this button which I somehow managed to overlook every time I looked for this.

Press the AM button down and hold until the clock on the dashboard begins to blink.

Step 3 - find the M and H buttons

Here is kinda the tough part (but still easy :  - )   Just below the AM buttons are the preset channel buttons #1 through #6.  Look for buttons #1 and #2.  See how one has a little "H" on it and the other has a little "M" on it?  The H button changes the hour and M button changes the minutes.  So....

While the clock is blinking, press the "H" button to see the hour to what you want and press the "M" button to set the minute.

Step 4 - Press AM button to complete

Once you have the desired hour and minutes set, go ahead and press the AM button (aka the "Clock" button) again and your time will now be set.
