Letter Count - Counting Letters and Words on MS Word .

There is a letter-count and word-count on Microsoft word that will, of course,  count the amount of letters and words that you type on your document.  Doing the word count is easier to than the letter count but only by one step.

Probably the hardest part of getting the number of letters and words on a word document is because it isn't a very obvious process.  Once you know how to do this, you'll remember it no problem.

Step 1

Open your Microsoft Word Document or create a new one

Step 2

Look to the bottom left of your PC screen.  Right next to where it tells you what document page you are on, you'll see "Words:"

See it?

Step 3
Right next to "Words" you'll see the amount of words that you have typed so far on this MS Word document.
OK? That should take care of the word-count.
Now for the letter-count
Step 4

To get the letter count, click on the same area where you were just looking.  Put another way, click on "Words:"

Step 5

In the window that appear on your PC screen, you'll see a number of statistics regarding your document. Here's where you find your letter count.

"Characters (no spaces)" will, of course, tell you the amount of letters you have typed without the number of spaces included in the total.  "Characters (with spaces)" includes the spaces in the total letter count.

That should do it.  I hope that helps you to determine the amount of characters or words you have entered on your MS Word documents.

What PA Pennsylvania Municipality Do I Live In?

The other day I was asked to fill out a form where I had to include both the name of the city I live in and my municipality.
I always thought that my city and municipality were the same thing but apparently that is not always the case.  If you run into a situation where you need to identify your municipality but can't, don't worry, there is a website that will help you to find your municipality no problem.

I'll run you through the basic steps so you can locate your municipality.  This article is for those looking for a municipality in Pennsylvania ( PA ).

Step 1
Copy and paste this site URL http://munstatspa.dced.state.pa.us/FindLocalTax.aspx into your web browser

(I think that is the easiest way, another way to do it is www.newpa.com - Get Local Gov't Support - Municipal Statistics but sometimes I get 'lost' navigating this path, just plug in the above URL and you'll get there faster.)

Step 2
When this page comes up, look to the left of your screen.  There is a link called "Find Your Municipality"    Go ahead and click this link

Step 3
Fill in your address in the blanks provided.  Then click the "Find Municipality" button.  Your pop-up blocker will probably show up.

Step 4
If you get the pop up warning at the top of the screen, go ahead and allow pop ups.  I hit the temporarily allow pop-ups but I'll leave that choice to you.

Step 5
Your municipality will show up along with your school district. Municipality on the left, school district on the right.

I hope that helps you to locate the municipal information you want.  I like that website because it also provides you with your school district (PSD) code, school district ( PSD ) name and you can also review your local  / municipal tax rates.

Pretty handy and easy to use.

How to Get an Aerial View of Your House

How to get a photo from the sky of your home.

Hi! Have you ever wanted to see an Aerial view of your neighborhood or house? Do you lack the pilots license necessary to experience these views? Never fear you can simply look at it on the internet. This is easy. Read on to learn how to Get an Aerial View of Your House .

Difficulty:
Easy

Instructions

things you'll need:

  • Internet connection
    • Step 1
It's amazing all the stuff you can find on the internet. Even a picture of the roof of your home! Pretty simple too...
    • Step
First connect to the internet and go to www.google.com
    • Step 3
In the Google web browser type in your complete address followed by the word "map" (don't use quotes though :-). For example (not a real address but just a 'for instance' ): 123 Blogger Avenue, Blogspot, PA 19104 map
    • Step 4
A map will appear at the top of the search with your address linked right next to the map. Click on the address link.....
    • Step 5
An expanded map will appear. Now for the cool part, at the top of the map click on the second button from the right called "Satellite"
    • Step 6
Give it a second and a pretty decent photo of your neighborhood will appear. There will also be an arrow pointing at your address.
    • Step 7
On the left side of the map you can control how far in or out you can zoom. If you zoom as far in as possible, you'll have a real good aerial view of your home and surrounding land.
    • Step
Sometimes you might have to pan the map left or right (simply do this by dragging the map with your cursor) to position the view directly over your home, but this is unusual. Typically the aerial view of your house will be just about dead center of the map.

How to Convert Decimeter dm to Centimeter cm

How to Convert Decimeter dm to Centimeter cm

Decimeter dm and centimeter cm are both units of length. Both are part of the metric system. Converting from one to the other is fairly easy. Please read on to learn how to convert Convert Decimeter dm to Centimeter cm

Difficulty:
Easy

Instructions

    • 1
First, before we calculate , let's put this conversion into perspective. Understand that a decimeter is longer than a centimeter.
    • 2
Begin the calculation by determining how many decimeters dm you want to convert to centimeters cm. For the sake of this article, let's presume you want to convert 1 decimeter into centimeters.
    • 3
Then, take 1 decimeter and multiply it by 10. You do this because a decimeter is 10 times longer than a centimeter.
    • 4
1 decimeter x 10 equals 10 Centimeters. The formula will always look like this. Decimeter (DM) x 10 = Centimeter (CM)
    • 5
I hope that helps. Basically always multiply dm x 10. Thanks for reading my how to Convert Decimeter dm to Centimeter cm

How to Repair a Concrete Floor Crack

Repairing Cracks in Concrete Floors

If you have an old concrete floor at home you've probably experienced a good number of cracks. Repairing it takes a little elbow grease but it is not too difficult. Read on to learn how to repair a concrete floor crack

Difficulty:
Moderate

Instructions

    • 1
Very important, wear safety glasses! Concrete can splinter and fly into your eye. Also chisels and hammers sometimes break too... wear those safety glasses!!
    • 2
If you see a crack running along your concrete floor believe it or not, you'll have to make it bigger, so grab your cold (box) chisel and hammer...
    • 3
Use the hammer and chisel to cut back the sides of the crack. That is, make the crack wider. You don't have to make it too wide, just make it wide enough so that you can envision packing mortar into the crack.
    • 4
Once the crack is wider, use a hand brush or broom to brush away the dust and fragments
    • 5
Take your small paint brush and apply white general purpose PVA building adhesive into the crack. This will help the repair mortar stick better to the crack
    • 6
Following directions on the packaging, mix your quick setting repair mortar.
    • 7
Using your trowel, fill the crack with the mortar. Then use the edge of the trowel to level it flat so that it is level with the rest of the floor.
    • 8
Sit back and admire your work. Let it harden.

How to Fix A Front Door that Won't Stay Closed Shut

Fixing Doors that Won't Stay Closed Shut

Hi! Do you have a front door that just won't stay closed? Does it open even after you give it a good slam? Read on to learn how to fix a front door that won't stay closed shut . This works best with wood door jambs

Difficulty:
Moderately Easy

Instructions

    • 1
If you find yourself slamming your front door and it still opens at the slightest breeze... if you find you need to 'pull up' on the door knob to get it to latch closed .... if you need to use the dead bolt to keep the door closed, read on, this fix may work for you.....
    • 2
Most likely what is happening is your front door has become slightly looser in the top hinge than the bottom hinges. The door then tilts ever slightly downward just enough to where the latch misses the hole in the door jamb that receives the latch.
    • 3
Essentially, what is happening is the latch strikes just slightly below the hole in the door jamb instead of going into the hole. This is why you might find if you pull up on the door knob, the door closes properly
    • 4
To fix this, first try to simply tighten the top hinge. Tighten it tight but don't do anything that will risk stripping the screw in hole. This will only loosen the door more.
    • 5
I suggest when you do this, only tighten the top hinge. Leave the others alone. By tightening the top hinge only, the door will stand up straight again.
    • 6
If this doesn't work, it is because the screw isn't 'biting' into the wood as well as it used to. To remedy, buy a longer screw (you may be able to get away with just one) and replace the top screw in the top hinge.
    • 7
When switching to a larger screw. Check to be sure you have room to screw the entire screw in. For example, if you have a small window pane just on the other side of the hinge, be sure you have enough room to take the whole screw. Be careful too if there is a light switch or outlet on the other side as well. You don't want to hit any wires. (I'm not sure I've ever had a problem with this, but I just want to be sure you are safe :-)
    • 8
If for whatever reason you can't use a longer screw, see if you can use a thicker screw. The holes in the hinge may tolerate the next size up in diameter.
    • 9
This should help your door to close better. Thanks for reading my How to Fix A Front Door that Won't Stay Closed Shut :-) Hope that helps, feel free to comment. I'd love to hear from you.

Site to Unscramble Letters Anagrams To Make New Words

Do you ever work on word scramble puzzles and find yourself stumped?  Sometimes unscrambling words is ridiculously easy, other times it can be exceedingly difficult.   It all depends on the difficulty of the puzzle and, of course, your own mastery of the English language and unscrambling skills.

I was working on a word puzzle where I had to unscramble words.  I was stumped and could not figure out how to rearrange the letters to make the correct phrases.  I know that the internet offers just about ever single solution on Earth, especially in the English language department.  There are writing courses, dictionaries, thesauruses, etc. Could there possibly a site that will do all the rearranging and world scramble solving for you?

The answer is yes.  Whether you are trying to sort out a jumble of letters or if you are trying to solve, or even create an anagram (basically a word posing as another word, think "Stop = Pots or Tops", etc.

I linked the site that will help to solve word scrambles and anagrams below.  Very helpful

How to Avoid Traffic Ticket Pay EzPass Toll in Wrong Cash Only Lane

Keep from Gettting Fined in Ez Pass Lane

How to Avoid Traffic Ticket Pay EzPass Toll in Wrong Cash Only Lanethumbnail
Avoid Traffic Ticket Pay EzPass Toll in Wrong Cash Only Lane

It'll happen eventually... you'll get on the turnpike using EzPass. Since you have EzPass you won't take your turnpike ticket. Then you'll get into a cash only no EzPass lane to pay. How do you avoid the fines? How to do you pay? Read on to learn How to Avoid Traffic Ticket Pay EzPass Toll in Wrong Cash Only Lane

Difficulty:
Easy

Instructions

    • 1
OK, you are driving along in your car with your valid EzPass. You are approaching the tolls.
    • 2
You always check to be sure you are entering a lane that accepts EzPass.
    • 3
If you mistakenly drive your car into a cash only lane, don't panic.
    • 4
Pull your car up to the toll booth operator and stop the car. Be courteous
    • 5
Tell him or her that you accidentally pulled into the cash only lane. Say you are sorry and ask what you need to do.
    • 6
The toll operator will look annoyed and roll his or her eyes as if you're the dumbest thing on Earth (your not, trust me :-)
    • 7
Then they will ask you for your EzPass. Don't do what I did and start reading your account number off the EzPass unit attached to your car windshield. They'll just roll their eyes again and probably think how lucky they are that they are so much smarter than you :-)
    • 8
Actually hand the toll operator the EzPass off your windshield. It may appear to be permanently fixed on your windshield but it is actually held on to your automobile by velcro
    • 9
The operator will scan your EzPass and then hand you a receipt. They won't give your EzPass back until you sign the receipt.
    • 10
Make sure the receipt looks accurate, sign it and hand it back.
    • 11
The cashier will give you back your EzPass. Make sure you get it back. Put it back on your car's windshield right away so you don't forget.
    • 12
Say thank you and drive off. If you're lucky, you'll get a 'You're Welcome'. If not, don't take it personally. These hard working folks deal with road rage induced automobile drivers all day long.

How to Fix a Vertical Blind Fast Easy and Cheap . A Very Lazy way to keep them from falling

Repairing a vertical blind that keeps coming down

How to Fix a Vertical Blind Fast Easy and Cheap . A Very Lazy way to keep them from fallingthumbnail
Fix a Vertical Blind Fast Easy and Cheap . A Very Lazy way to keep them from falling
Do your vertical blinds keep falling off? Here's a cheap easy and, honestly,a very, very lazy way to fix the blind

Difficulty:
Easy

Instructions

    • Step 1
Okay! One or more of your vertical blinds keeps falling down. The reason is there is a tear or break above the hole that connects the blind to the hook. This method works best for full length blinds that typically cover a large window or deck/patio door
    • Step 2
Pick up the blind and lay it across a surface where it will lay flat (the floor or long workbench will do just well)
    • Step 3

Using scissors, cut a piece off of the bottom of the blind. Cut as straight as possible, all the way across. I recommend NOT cutting more that 1/4" of an inch off bottom. Actually 1/8 - 3/16" should do .
    • Step 4
I know what you are thinking...".. if I cut a piece from the bottom, won't this blind look short??" Nah. The missing piece is all the way down toward the floor. Only the cat will notice and I'm sure he won't say anything. Just keep it around around 1/4" or less and you'll be OK
    • Step 5
So now you have the bottom piece of the blind say 3/16" by let's say about 3" (depending on how wide your blinds are). You are going to use this piece to mend the tear or break above the hole in your blind
    • Step 6
Take the piece you just cut off and trim it to at least 1 inch (UNLESS the tear above the hole is more than 1/2 inch. If that is the case, add another inch)
    • Step 7

Next we'll want to glue the cut piece above the hole in the vertical blind. The whole purpose of this is to mend the tear or 'bridge' the tear so that you'll be able to hang the blind back onto the clip. Put Krazy glue or super glue or equivalent on both sides of the tear.
    • Step 8

Press the piece you cut off the bottom of the blind into the glue. If it doesn't span across the whole tear and still contact 1/4" on each side of tear, you'll need a longer piece. If it obstructs the hole that the manufacturer put in the blind (that the clip goes through) you'll need to make the piece less thick.
    • Step 9
Most krazy glue or super glue says hold for 30 seconds. Hold it for a good minute across the tear to be sure you get a good bind
    • 10
Blind I installed is second one in from the left
Connect blind back into the clip. Should work like a charm.

How to Get a Car Ride to Work

Getting Driven To Work

Get a Car Ride to Work

Hi! Have you ever found yourself without a car and needed to get to work ? Have you ever found yourself in need of a car ride anywhere? Please read on, maybe I can come up with a fresh new idea for you.

Difficulty:
Moderate

Instructions

    • 1
This first one is too obvious. I almost didn't include it but though what the heck..... See if there is a coworker in your area that will give you a lift. Be sure though this is someone that you like being around. You may get stuck returning the favor more often that you think ;-)
    • 2
The thought of contacting a friend or relative is another fine idea but, again, is too obvious for me to waste your time with here :-) Think more creatively like....
    • 3
Try asking someone who doesn't work the same days or the same shift that you do. People have their own routines and the last thing they want to do is miss work or alter their schedule. Try someone with a schedule opposite of yours. Offer to return the favor if it is ever needed.
    • 4
Ask a retired person. I'm sure you know somebody who is retired. If you are a senior, you may have friends that are retired. If you are a young person, I'm sure you can think of someone with a relative nearby who is retired. Give it some thought. They're out there!
    • 5
Ask someone who is unemployed. Yeah, times can be tough and you might know someone out of work. This person might be happy to do it. You can always sweeten the pot by offering a few bucks for the ride. It could turn out to be a mutual favor for both of you.
    • 6
Find someone you know who is out of work on disability. Okay, I'm getting a little cold blooded here, but you may know or know of someone. Just be sure this person isn't violating the conditions or terms of their disability. The guy with epileptic seizures might seem like a good idea until he puts you in the hospital, loses his disability, and is thrown in jail.
    • 7
OK, another cold blooded one .... Ask a not-so-secret admirer. Do you have one? I suspect you're pretty good looking so give it some thought. You have one :-) Every so often in life there's someone that really wants to be around you, but maybe you don't share the same enthusiasm. They'll be thrilled to pick you up, drop you off, drive you to lunch, take you to the store, wash the dog, etc :-)
    • 8
Do you know anyone that has an extra car? They might be fine with you borrowing it. If it isn't a tanker truck, offer to fill it up with gas as a thank you.
    • 9
Consider walking. "What??!!" you might say. I admit, if you are 10 miles or so from work, it is probably too far. Believe it or not, if your destination is only a few miles, it isn't too bad. Be sure you are in good enough health to make the walk. Be sure to pack a small umbrella and anything else you may need in case the weather goes sour.
    • 10
Call a cab. Yeah, now we are getting desperate. You may need to shell out the loot for a cab ride. Do you live near a cab service? No? Well, actually, I think you do and don't know it. Most suburban and even rural areas have cab companies. Try to call ahead of time for rates and availability.

Rent a car. Now we are really desperate and looking to spend some big bucks. One problem I find with rental agencies is that they usually don't have cars available the last minute. Try to reserve a car as soon as possible. Also, be sure to ask them for discounts. If you are having your car repaired, ask the rental agency if they give discounts to customers of that repair shop. I rented a car once and got a discount because of the company I work for. My company is really small too! Try it.

How to Repair a Hole / Pothole in Concrete Floor

Repairing a damaged concrete surface

It seems that cracks and holes in concrete flooring are as inevitable as the sun rising in the morning. I wrote an article on fixing cracks but here's one on fixing holes. Please read on to learn how to Repair a Hole / Pothole in Concrete Floor

  • PVA building adhesive
  • Mortar trowel
  • Repair Mortar
  • Small Paint Brush
  • Broom or dust brush
  • SAFETY GLASSES

Difficulty:
Moderately Easy

Instructions

    • 1
When you find the hole, clean out loose debris and dust and take a small paint brush and apply white general purpose PVA building adhesive into the hole. This will help the repair mortar stick better
    • 2
Put any debris you took out of the hole back into the hole. Then inspect the area around the hole. Are there any more pieces that were once in the hole still around?
    • 3
If you have the pieces pick them up and put them in the hole. Don't put them in there as if you are putting a jig saw puzzle together. Put them loosely in the hole. If you can find the pieces, use any old gravel, concrete pieces or other hard filler that will not compress
    • 4
Once you've filled the hole. Put some safety glasses on (safety first always! :-) and hit the filler with a hammer so that the filler is not sticking up over the top of the hole. Essentially, just pack it down a bit.
    • 5
Take a brush or broom and brush away any dust or fragments laying around the outside of the hole (but keep your filler in the hole of course :-)
    • 6
Take a small paint brush and apply white general purpose PVA building adhesive on to the top of the filler. This will help the repair mortar stick better
    • 7
Following directions on the packaging, mix your quick setting repair mortar.
    • 8
Using your trowel, fill the hole and cover the filler with the mortar. Then use the edge of the trowel to level it flat so that it is level with the rest of the floor.
    • 9
Let it harden overnight. Then get a chair, a cold drink and sit by the hole and admire your work! :-)

How to Do Special Paint Effects called Rag Rolling / Ragging

This is a neat paint effect that is simple to do. It'll give your walls a nice textured look. Read on to learn How To Do Special Paint Effects called Rag Rolling / Ragging

Difficulty:
Moderately Easy

Instructions

    • 1
First paint a base coat using a roller or brush. Egg shell paint seems to work best for this technique, but if you want to try something else, go for it.
    • 2
      Let base coat dry
    • 3
Get yourself a bunch of 2 foot by 2 foot cloths. Definitely use lint free cotton or linen rags.
    • 4
Choose a paint to use as your top coat. Another egg shell would be a good selection. The top coat is the color that will give the room the textured look. Some people will tell you they get great results when they dilute this color with paint thinner. It does help, but you don't have do to this.
    • 5
Using a paint brush, paint on your next coat over the base coat. Do a small area at a time and keep in mind you are doing brush strokes with the intention of allowing the base color to show through.
    • 6
After you've done a small area, quick roll up one of the rags with the intention of 'log rolling' it across the damp top coat. You could also 'ball it up' like a ball and roll it that way if you'd prefer.
    • 7
Roll the rag over the top coat. You'll notice the rag randomly picks up some of the paint and allows the base coat to show through a textured design. Pretty fun technique.
    • 8
As the rag begins to absorb too much paint or begins to leave clumpy paint on the wall, throw the rag out and grab a new one.
    • 9
Vary the directions you roll the rag to get an interesting effect and texture.
